Media Producer
THE UNITED STATES ARMY FIELD BAND is the Department of the Army’s premier touring musical representative. It has appeared in all fifty states and in more than thirty countries on four continents. The Field Band’s four performing components, the Concert Band, Soldiers’ Chorus, Jazz Ambassadors, and Six-String Soldiers, each travel more than 100 days annually. Its newest team, the Army Rappers, adds a popular and powerful genre to the organization’s mission of connecting Americans with their Army. Army Field Band events include formal public concerts, school assemblies, educational outreach programs, festivals, and radio and television appearances.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Create and manage video content for touring music shows. Tour up to 100 days per year in the U.S. and abroad; Position requires a minimum 4-year enlistment in The U.S. Army — the candidate will be informed of acceptance prior to enlistment; other duties as required in service to the organization.
MOTION GRAPHIC DESIGN (50%)
- Use LED displays as a canvas of varying aspect ratios to accent and support our musical products by managing, creating and implementing video content for display on IMAG screens during live performances
- Work with assigned producers while managing multiple shows and projects at the same time
- Create new templates and reusable design solutions for a range of digital deliverables across multiple social and digital channels
- Update and enhance existing design deliverables by working with established templates and documents
DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKER AND STORYTELLER (30%)
- Pitch creative video ideas and scripts
- Produce cinematic video products for IMAG that tell the Army story
- Work with small crews with limited resources
- Manage large multi-day/multi-location productions
- Post produce, audio mix and color correct
- Repurpose products for social media
VIDEO ENGINEER (20%)
- Manage and maintain video displays
- Setup, teardown and troubleshoot equipment on location
- Trigger content live using Resolume Arena and Playback Pro
- Interface with Technical Directors at host sites to link up video efforts to existing in-house infrastructure
- Oversee crews of two to five people
- Adapt content as needed to fit live broadcasts
- Ability to fill in various positions of live multicam broadcast
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Communication, Broadcasting, Graphic Design, Interactive Design, or a related field preferred
- 3-5 years of motion graphic design experience related to broadcast, advertising or social media
- Ability to create original stand-out materials beyond regular news graphics and templates.
- Deep understanding of design principles including composition, visual hierarchy, color and typography
- Advocate for great design through constructive critiques
- Detail oriented with high quality/accuracy and proofreading skills
- Proficiency with Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere and Adobe Photoshop
- Experience working with unconventional aspect ratios and canvas sizes
- Ability to produce, shoot, direct and edit cinematic mini documentaries and vignettes
- Ability to travel up to 100 days annually and have no limitations on travel outside of the United States
- Sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to work without supervision
- Familiarity with print, graphics and publishing a plus
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to meet Army height/weight standards and maintain a generally fit appearance
- Civilian applicants must be 17-34 years of age
- U.S. citizen or other qualified resident
SPECIAL AREAS OF EMPHASIS:
- Proficiency with Resolume Arena
- Strong media management skills
- Photojournalism, concert and event photography
- Knowledge of live and recorded video equipment and standards; basic IP-based camera networking
- Ability to read music, play a musical instrument and/or follow a score
- Comfortable driving large vehicles
SALARY:
$70,000 – $75,000 annually (Army rank of Staff Sergeant)

ELIGIBILITY
- 4-year enlistment in the U.S. Army required to accept position
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (green card holder)
- Civilian applicants must be 17-34 years of age
- Military applicants must be eligible for PCS
Applicants selected from screening of reels/portfolios will be invited for a personal interview and audition. Travel expenses will be paid by the United States Army. Military personnel must be eligible for permanent change of station and must submit an Intent to Release memorandum from their unit Commander.
Due to recent enlistment policy restrictions, prior service personnel are advised to consult with their local Army recruiter concerning eligibility.
