Cinematic Actor Showcase Scenes – Public University Production (NYC Area)

We are seeking an experienced one-person filmmaker/videographer to shoot and deliver 7 short, cinematic showcase scenes for advanced acting students at a public city university.

This showcase is entirely student-funded through their own fundraising efforts. The department does not have an institutional showcase budget. We welcome community-minded artists, collaborators, and professionals who value supporting emerging talent.

This is a performance-driven project — the focus is the actors — but the finished scenes must look polished, professional, and visually compelling.

Project Overview

• 7 scenes

• 2 actors per scene

• Under 3 minutes each

• Single location

• Scripts selected from published plays / existing screenplays

• Half-day shoots

• Produced by students & faculty

• Directed by faculty who work professionally in film/TV

Objective:

Create dialogue scenes that feel like they’re pulled from a film or prestige television series — cinematic, grounded, actor-focused.

We will ensure the quality of performance.

We are looking for a filmmaker who will ensure the actors look their best on camera — flattering, thoughtful cinematography that supports the storytelling without distracting from it. This is showcase material; presentation matters.

Responsibilities

• Shoot on location

• Sync and mix dialogue

• Edit each scene

• Color grade for a polished, professional finish

• Deliver final mastered files

We will allow two rounds of notes on each edit.

We may hire a separate location sound recordist if needed, but you must be comfortable syncing and finishing dialogue in post.

Gear Available

• Sony FX3

• Rokinon prime lens kit

• Zoom H4N

• 2x Sennheiser boom mics

• Ronin RS2

• Manfrotto tripod

• 2 small LED panel lights

You may use our gear or supplement with your own.

Final Delivery Deadline: April 15 (firm).

Showcase Launch: May 4

Budget

Up to $400 per finished scene.

Please indicate:

• Your rate using your own gear

• Your reduced rate if using our provided gear

We cannot provide transportation. Lunch will be provided on shoot days.

Ideal Candidate

• Strong reel demonstrating cinematic dialogue scenes

• Experience delivering finished work solo (shoot → edit → color → mix)

• Collaborative, positive, and enjoyable to work with

• Deadline-oriented and reliable

• Ideally experienced in academic or arts-based productions

• Community-minded; supportive of emerging artists

To Apply

Please send:

• Reel (dialogue scenes preferred)

• Availability in late March

• Confirmation you can meet the April 15 delivery deadline
