Layout TD


Job Description:

Layout TDs at DNEG are responsible for CG camera animation using cinematography principles, shot composition techniques and character blocking. Our Layout team produce pre-vis, post-vis and final CG camera work for high profiles features that will be subsequently used by other departments.

The team is responsible for positioning and composing digital assets for the rest of the pipeline to use. They work together to maintain shot continuity across sequences while also modelling set geometry used during the matchmove process.


Junior Layout TD

Salary: $40,000pa - $60,000pa

Must Have:

• 1+ years of industry experience within high end feature films
• Experience in world space placement
• Knowledge of re-rack, reposition and retimes of non-creatives.
• Understanding of practical cameras and camera techniques.
• Experience with full CG character and camera blocking.
• Set dressing experience.
• Thorough understanding of postproduction pipelines.
• A good working knowledge of Maya.
• Proven creative and technical problem solving skills.

Nice to Have:

• Broad 3D generalist experience, comfortable with matchmove, asset build and lighting is preferred.


Mid Layout TD

Salary: $60,000pa - $80,000pa

Must Have:

• 2+ years of industry experience working in high-end feature films.
• Experience with offsetting matchmove elements and CG sets for world space continuity
• Knowledge of re-racks, repositions and retimes both non-creative and creative.
• Understanding of practical cameras and camera techniques including camera takeover plate to CG (or vice versa).
• Experience with complex full CG character and camera blocking.
• Set dressing experience.
• Thorough understanding of postproduction pipelines and the ability to troubleshoot in a scene.
• Ability to interpret storyboards and pre-vis work from clients.
• Experience QC’ing shots once approved in dailies and ensuring continuity checks are completed.
• Broad 3D generalist experience and comfortable with matchmove, asset build and lighting.
• A good working knowledge of Maya.
• Good creative and technical problem solving skills.




Senior Layout TD

Salary: $80,000pa - $110,000pa

Must Have:

• 3+ years of industry experience working in high-end feature films.
• Experience with offsetting matchmove elements and CG sets for world space continuity
• Knowledge of re-racks, repositions and retimes both non-creative and creative.
• Understanding of practical cameras and camera techniques including camera takeover plate to CG (or vice versa).
• Ability to camera blend and stich multiple camera tracks.
• Experience with complex full CG character and camera blocking.
• Set dressing experience.
• Thorough understanding of postproduction pipelines and the ability to troubleshoot in a scene and between departments.
• Ability to interpret storyboards and pre-vis work from clients.
• Experience QC’ing shots once approved in dailies and ensuring continuity checks are completed per shot and per show and sequence.
• Experience setting up the master sequences layout and projection cameras.
• Broad 3D generalist experience and comfortable with matchmove, asset build and lighting.
• Advanced knowledge of Maya.
• Experience scheduling/ assigning shots and mentoring/ training junior-mid artists.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical/ pipeline issues as well as providing a solution.


Nice to Have:
• Coding skills, with experience creating tools in Maya.
