Job Description
The Atlanta Regional Commission is seeking assistance from a graphic arts professional (illustrator, motion graphics professionals, and others with experience in mapmaking and artistic rendering) to develop a map that will be incorporated into a 4-mintue video about the region’s present and future transportation options.

The map will be used to illustrate metro Atlanta’s transportation infrastructure and regional landmarks. Think Google Earth without the extraneous information.

Project details:

ARC is looking for a partner to help us bring this idea to life. Some general guidelines include:

• The map should be a vector file that includes as separate layers:
o Existing major assets (e.g., highways, transit lines, multi-use trails (Beltline)
o Future projects (toll lanes, rebuilt highway interchanges, new rail and bus lines, expanded multi-use trails)
NOTE: ARC will provide list of elements for inclusion; no outside research needed

• The map should be an artistic representation of the 10-county Atlanta region. While “to scale” accuracy is not required, spatial relationships should be respected. That said, high value will be placed on artistic interpretation combined with functionality. The end result should be a sophisticated look that reflects Metro Atlanta’s smart, forward-looking transportation plan.

• The orientation of the map (flat or 3-dimensional) is open for discussion. It should be pleasing to the eye, easily understood, include enough geographical information to quickly orient the viewer and provide the ability to “isolate or highlight” its various components. The map may include the ability to “zoom in” for a closer look at specific components or have the specifics “pop out” of the map.

Project timetable:

• Deadline for delivery of the map and its components is end of August 2018.
• Motion graphics, if included, would need to be completed by end of September.
