DHX Media – Vancouver is looking for an experienced Lead Animator to join our team!


DHX Studios is seeking a driven, experienced Lead Animator to lead a team of talented Animators on one of our awesome 3D productions!

As the Lead Animator, you will be directly responsible for the artistic output, operations and overall functioning of the animation department. This will be achieved by evaluating, implementing and supervising process, work flow and technical infrastructure that maximize quality and ensure viability. Team synergy and effectiveness will ensure success; therefore recruitment, team building and group dynamics will play a major part in this position.

WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO:

  • Direct animation and provide feedback to animators on composition, timing, performance, staging, blocking and overall style
  • Review the work of each Animator on a regular basis and approve shots for submission to the Episodic Director
  • Oversee and assist in training the Animation Team on an ongoing basis both technically and creatively
  • Conduct model and rig testing to ensure rigs are production ready
  • Conduct quality control of all assets
  • Review, provide feedback all final renders
  • Manage show resources through Shotgun (asset tracking system to ensure shows are staying on budget while maximizing creative objectives)
  • Collaborate with Episodic Director and Series Director to prioritize client requests and changes on an ongoing basis
  • Collaborate with Production Management to ensure show status is effectively communicated throughout production
  • Identify actions necessary to achieve task completion and to obtain results while meeting schedules, deadlines and performance goals
  • Communicate and set expectations for the Animation Team to ensure on-time delivery Ensure and maintain the quality, style, and continuity of animation across the show
  • Oversee the daily activities of the animation team
  • Partner with management to guide artists’ overall professional development, providing performance feedback, mentoring, assisting with resolving performance issues and maintaining positive morale among the team
  • Be a positive and creative force on the team
  • Be part of the recruiting process by assisting the HR department with the development of job descriptions, sourcing of candidates as well as the candidate selection process
  • Partner with management to guide artists’ overall professional development by providing performance feedback, mentoring, assisting with resolving performance issues and maintaining positive morale among the team
  • Foster and enable communication and collaboration across departments
  • Work with production team to identify appropriate staffing levels and needs.
  • Set goals for others that can be achieved using available resources, and use previous measurable performance to establish goals within projected timeframe


WHAT YOU BRING:


  • 2+ years of experience as a Senior, Lead Animator or Animation Director in the animation industry
  • Proficient in 3D animation packages
  • Strong understanding of key-framed animation development processes, limitations and dependencies
  • A strong understanding of basic human kinetics and basic real world physics
  • Understanding of rigging and modelling
  • Thorough understanding of animation principles
  • Strong understanding of cinematic storytelling principles and techniques
  • Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills
  • Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively give direction and communicate storytelling
  • Ability to identify strengths and weakness of animation team
  • Ability to set priorities for yourself and others, as well as manage the progress of work
  • Proactive work ethic, capable problem solver with the ability to implement solutions
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner
  • Ability to adapt to multiple animation styles
  • Must be open to direction and able to embrace change
  • Ability to remain flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs of production
