Do you still have fond memories from your Mega Man days? Do you still wish you could have a chance to model a 3D version into a TV series and make it the best it could ever look?

DHX Media – Vancouver is looking for an experienced Lead Modeller to join our team!


As a Lead Modeller you have exceptional skills and experience in modelling and texturing in Maya. You create characters, props and set models that accurately represent the artistic goals and story concepts of the production. You test tools created by the pipeline team for modelling and provide feedback.

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:


  • Create geometry and UVs for assets (characters, props, sets, etc.) based on production guidelines
  • Ensure modelling assets are delivered in the expected quality and technical requirements of the show
  • Work and communicate with rigging team to ensure assets are built to achieve the intended animation performance requirements
  • Work and communicate with shading teams to ensure assets meet their needs
  • Ensure assets adhere to the established production guidelines and quality control
  • Modify and improve existing modelling assets when needed
  • Interpret and implement notes and feedback from directors and supervisors in a timely and qualitatively acceptable way
  • Meet production deadlines and maintain regular communication with the production team
  • Mentor and support other members of the team
  • Ensure effective communication with modelling supervisor on concerns and production issues ahead of time
  • Keep current on modelling techniques and technology
  • Recommend any team training needs to modelling supervisor
  • Help test and evaluate the existing modelling tools and workflow within Maya
  • Assist in the development of new modelling tools, guidelines and workflows for the Maya pipeline
  • Test tools created by the pipeline team for modelling and provide productive feedback
  • Create documentation for approved tools, guidelines and workflows for modelling
  • Help in the development of modelling techniques, guidelines and workflows for future productions
  • Help establish efficient modelling techniques to optimize the asset creation process
  • Anticipate, communicate, and troubleshoot any creative or technical issues with assistance from key stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively as part of the senior production team
  • Provide constructive criticism, wisdom, guidance, and feedback that will help others further their career development
  • Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner
  • Be a positive and creative force on the team


WHAT YOU BRING:


  • 4+ years of experience in animation for film or television
  • High proficiency in Maya 2014 or later
  • Experience with Zbrush and/or similar sculpting programs
  • Experience in creation of all asset types including Characters, Environments, Vehicles and Props.
  • Excellent understanding of the fundamentals of organic and hard body modelling
  • Good understanding of topology and human anatomy
  • Experience with blend shape creation for character expressions
  • Softimage modelling experience is a major plus
  • Substance Painter/Designer experience is a major plus
  • Any rigging, texturing and shading experience within Maya is a plus
  • Experience with V-Ray is a plus
  • Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills
  • Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Able to identify strengths and weakness of modelling team
  • Able to remain flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs of production
  • Able to set priorities for yourself and others, as well as manage the progress of work
  • Proactive work ethic, capable problem solver with the ability to implement solutions

  • Have played at least one Mega Man game
  • Have done models of vehicles, robots, bipedals, or any Mega Man related stuff
