Digital Media Content Creator, Public Affairs Office

IN PERSON INTERVIEWS: Week of October 2, 2017

The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” the U.S. Army’s premier music organization, announces a vacancy for DIGITAL MEDIA CONTENT CREATOR with Public Affairs Office (PAO).

Successful candidate will be a team player with a strong desire to work collaboratively. Ability to work at a professional level and take direction from superiors, while operating in a positive and consultative small-team environment is imperative. Must have strong organizational, problem solving, and time management skills. Positive attitude is critical. Must be dedicated to being proactive in improving processes, contributing ideas, and creating content that further builds relationships with our audiences. Work hours are flexible based on weekly mission requirements. Some evening/weekend missions may be required.

Open to civilian applicants and Active Duty E-6 and below.

SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT CREATION (70%): Prepares scripts, shoots, edits, and produces entertaining video products that tell the Army Band story to internal and external audiences in the National Capital Region and around the world. Responsible for updating video footage of Band activities and concert recordings to social media sites; maintains the Army Band video footage archive on YouTube; and finds internet-based outlets for video content. Goal to increase engagement with audiences, build new audiences, and market the established Army Band brand to military and civilian audiences.
LIVE VIDEO BROADCAST (30%): Grow current engagement capabilities via existing and new live video and web-streaming infrastructure; manage video broadcast staffing as needed (ensuring a top-quality product every time).
Develops a content plan to support the needs of the Army Band and interests of the audience;
Controls quality in all phases of production, both technical and artistic;
Creates ideas for brand-building video content which positions TUSAB at the top of the mind of our various audiences;
Develops and executes against a content calendar and coordinates timely content production across various departments;
Collaborates with social media and website managers to feature content in compelling and engaging ways;
Tailors and leverages content in ways which improve visibility and ranking within search engine results pages;
Provides analysis to determine effectiveness of content and inform future content production; and
Cultivates, improves, and organizes existing YouTube Channel.
Creates a video-broadcast standard for concerts streamed live from Brucker Hall and other area venues;
Shoots live concert broadcasts and is responsible for training, managing, and coaching volunteer video-stream operators to be used as needed;
Coordinates with audio and technical support team to ensure high-quality video production;
Edits content (post-production) to create video clips based on best content and determine quality for mass distribution.

At least 2 years’ experience creating engaging video content for various audiences via YouTube and other social media platforms;
Strong technical and operational knowledge of and proven proficiency in shooting and editing video with industry standard equipment and software applications (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro X, AVID, Resolve, or similar);
Knowledge of photographic and video recording equipment standards (cameras and camcorders);
Competent technical abilities in field production and post-production including: green screen stand ups, lighting/camera setup for field interviews, camera operations, digital video editing, and familiarity (or ability to learn) with a live studio operation;
Experience reading and using analytics to make appropriate content decisions;
Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and the design of images and graphics for web publication;
Working knowledge of Facebook and YouTube account management and analytics;
Working knowledge of live video production technology and infrastructure design, specifically for web-based distribution;
Familiarity with the Apple Macintosh OS.

Website design experience;
Familiarity with desktop database management (Filemaker Pro);
Experience as an administrator for branded social media accounts;
Love and appreciation of music is a plus.

All applicants must have U.S. citizenship due to a security clearance requirement. Acceptance of a position requires a minimum four-year enlistment in the United States Army.
Anyone offered a position would be expected to pass an Army physical examination, meet Army height/weight standards, and meet other standards required to enlist in the United States Army prior to being invited to audition. Individuals must enlist and begin Basic Combat Training (BCT), prior to their 35th birthday. Recent enlistment policy has heavily restricted prior service personnel from re-entering the Army. Prior service personnel are advised to consult with their local Army recruiter about these policies.

Members of the band are given the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of 42S (forty-two sierra), “Special Band Musician”. Personnel are promoted to the grade of Staff Sergeant (E-6) upon completion of four-months of active-duty service and enjoy full military benefits, including medical and dental care; 30-days paid vacation each year; a permanent duty assignment to Fort Myer, VA; and educational benefits such as the Montgomery GI Bill. Annual starting salary for Staff Sergeant is $58,955 without dependents; $65,651 with dependents.

Interviews will be held at Brucker Hall, home of The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” at 400 McNair Road, Fort Myer, Virginia 22211-1306.
Upon review of all submitted packets, invitations to attend the live interview/visit to Fort Myer will be extended during August.
Travel expenses for civilians will be paid for by The U.S. Army pending enlistment qualification and funding approval. Military personnel should refer to their respective units to request travel funding.
