Job Description
NOC 5241 - 2D Artist

Rocket Science VFX is a multimedia production company creating film & television digital visual effects. Currently there are five (5) Junior Compositor/2D Artist positions to be filled. We believe in creative challenges, technical and artistic investment, and continuous growth through education and experimentation.

  • Consult with project managers and artists across various disciplines to establish the creative and technical aspects of each shot.

  • Execute compositing tasks based on direction from Lead Compositors and VFX Supervisors.

  • Determine the medium best suited to produce desired visual effect using leading edge industry software.

  • Process Blue Screen/Green Screen Matte Extraction, Color-Correction and 2D tracking, as well as Roto-scope and paint.

  • Seamlessly integrate 2D, 3D and live action elements with an eye for photo-realism, including composition, colour, light and shadow to create an esthetically balanced look.

  • Work within a collaborative, team environment.

  • A strong eye for detail, composition, colour and lighting.

  • Proven ability to adapt existing illustrations (i.e. 2D, 3D ad live-action elements) in a photo-realistic way.

  • Ability to solve creative and technical problems under tight deadlines.

  • Strong knowledge of the Nuke 3D environment and projection mapping software.

  • Experience with multi-pass 3D renders.

  • Working knowledge of both feature film and television VFX production pipelines.

  • NUKE, Maya, Shotgun.

  • Knowledge of Photoshop, Houdini a plus.

  • 1 to 2 years experience in a live-action VFX Studio.

  • A professional and friendly manner.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and problem solve.

  • A team player with excellent communication skills.

  • College Certificate &/or degree in animation/VFX or applicable industry experience required.

  • This is a full time position.

  • Wage: $58,000 CDN per year

  • Work week is 40 to 44 hours per week.

  • Overtime is paid at 1.5x per hour, over an above 44 hours, with prior approval from manager.

  • Overtime and shifted work hours may be required from time to time to meet delivery deadlines.

  • Vacation entitlement: 10 days paid vacation after 12 months full-time employment.

  • Eligible to enroll in Group Benefits Plan after three months of full-time employment (must have OHIP to be eligible).

  • If relocation to Toronto is required, one month accommodation will be provided.
